What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care discipline which works from the premise that disorders and imbalances in a person’s musculoskeletal system, and the negative effect that those imbalances have on the nervous system, impact negatively upon the general health and well-being of that person.

Through gentle, specific manipulation of joints by hand, your chiropractor will alleviate tension and correct any misalignment of your skeleton to enable your nervous system to work more efficiently.  This will realign your body to improve mobility and provide relief from pain and discomfort.

The treatment you receive during your consultation will be supplemented with advice on follow-up exercises and lifestyle changes which will reinforce the work carried out in your sessions.

While many people seek a Chiropractor for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, arm and leg pain and trapped nerves, Chiropractic can also be helpful for a variety of other ailments.  For example, sports injuries often respond well to chiropractic treatment, as do tension headaches and Migraines, jaw pain, Sciatica and repetitive strain injuries.

What is McTimoney Chiropractic?

The McTimoney method is a branch of Chiropractic developed by Chiropractor John McTimoney (1914-1980) more than half a century ago.

It is a holistic approach to Chiropractic care which considers a person's symptoms in the context of their medical history, personal circumstances and lifestyle.

Treatment is characterised by quick, light force adjustments, making it a comfortable, non-invasive treatment to receive. The subtlety of the adjustment demands great sensitivity and mechanical skill, and when practiced by a trained McTimoney Chiropractor, is extremely effective.  The gentle nature of this form of Chiropractic treatment makes it particularly suitable for people of any age including babies, pregnent ladies and the elderly.

Clearly the best information you can obtain as to the benefits of McTimoney Chiropractic are the first hand accounts of those who have experienced it for themselves.

We invite you to have a read, below, of what some of our patients have to say about their experiences of McTimoney Chiropractic, so you don't have to just take our word for it!

"Suddenly, out of the blue, early in August 2009 I suffered severe back pain which continued down my right leg. A visit to the GP confirmed that it was sciatica. Due to the severity of the pain he said that it was unlikely that I could stand any form of treatment such as physiotherapy or osteopathy and diagnosed pain killers and rest. I was horrified when he told me that it could be months before I was free of pain. At the time I could hardly move and couldn't get comfortable either sitting in the chair or lying down. My husband was given Alaine's details by someone with a similar problem. We did the usual research on the internet and found that the McTimoney Chiropractic procedure is a very gentle treatment. I decided to give it a try and could feel the improvement within a few days of the first treatment. My regret is that I didn't book an appointment sooner! I have already suggested that some of my friends visit Alaine and I know that one of them at least has already had great benefit after suffering with back pain for years."

"I had suffered back pain and neck pain on and off for over ten years. Painkillers and tablets didn't help, they just made me groggy and constipated which made life even more miserable. Within one treatment my back pain had completely gone and after my next treatment the neck pain has eased as well. I was amazed as the treatment was so gentle and relaxing. I still come back for a check up every so often as I never want to go back to how I was. I've got my life back and can enjoy the simple things I love again, like gardening and walking the dogs."

"I feel this is the most sympathetic treatment for the body.  Manipulation is never violent and always within the limits that the body will allow.  I have always found this treatment to be effective, gentle and very good at allowing the body to gradually but securely, recover its natural balance and posture.  I will always recommend it to others"
