"Suddenly, out of the blue, early in August 2009 I suffered severe back pain which continued down my right leg. A visit to the GP confirmed that it was sciatica. Due to the severity of the pain he said that it was unlikely that I could stand any form of treatment such as physiotherapy or osteopathy and diagnosed pain killers and rest. I was horrified when he told me that it could be months before I was free of pain. At the time I could hardly move and couldn't get comfortable either sitting in the chair or lying down.
