Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is a talking therapy that aims to solve problems concerning dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure. CBT encourages you to talk about the way that you think about yourself, the world and other people and also how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings. By talking in this way CBT can help you to change how you think (‘cognitive’) and what you do (‘behaviour’), which can help you feel better about life.

CBT is effective for the treatment of a variety of problems, including mood, anxiety, personality, eating, substance abuse, and psychotic disorders and is particularly helpful in tacking problems such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and drug misuse.

Unlike other talking treatments, CBT focuses on the problems and difficulties you have now, rather than issues from your past. It looks for practical ways you can improve your state of mind on a daily basis.
